Koh Sichang ( Si Chang Island )



Sichang Island or People call " Koh Sichang" is the big Island and location is in Chonburi Province. Koh Sichang is far from Sri Racha ( some district of Chonburi) about 12 KMs , here's the way to park Argosies from many countries and also popular for travelers to come here because of this Island is very beautiful place, good for relax and have vocation! ;-)

Folk life in Koh Sichang is a old style , the travelers can take a trip like One day trip or Stay. The village is located in the East of Island and Thavawong Bay ( Tah Ruer Thavawong ) is here, this point is the way to start to other places in Koh Sichang by tricycle or other transports.


Travel Points in Koh Sichang are :

San ChaoPhokhaoyai : Located is in Khao Hang ( Hang Hill ) from Tah Ruer Thavawong to the North of Island, here's the worship place. This place is look like a cave and modify to Buddhism Religious Place, mix of Thai and Chinese art architecture. From this San Chaophokhaoyai the traveler can see view of village so clearly.

Mondop of Buddha's footprint : Located above of San ChaophoKhaoyai, King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) had invite to install here. The Top of Hill can be the sea view.


ChongKhaoKard : Located at back of Island, if you're go through by boat you'll see the mountain pass ( that is the way of name ChongKhaokard : Chong=Hole, area from point a to point b or hiatus or Channal// Khao= Mountain or hill // Khard = separate or torn or worn out or ragged. )  This place has bridge to walk and view Sunset. The beach full of round stones but beautiful.

Chudadhuj Palace : Far from Tah Thevawong to South of Island. This palace was build in King Chulalong korn period for stay on Summer. Inside the palace is very beautiful. Front is the beach and next up be the Wattana building. The palace is Thai pattern of Thai construction of common houses without the gable style.

Haad Thum Khao Pung ( Thum Khao Pung beach) is on the West of Island, this beach is large / clean and beautiful, fine sand clearly water and good to play water activity.

Because of travel places in Koh Sichang are far from each other, the traveler can rent tricycle from the dock to visit other places, take about hour the travelers can visit around the Island and the cost of rental depend on the service provider.. or it's about 150-250 bath depend on period of time and distant.

The Way Bangkok to Sri Racha.

By Train : From Bangkok station ( Hua Lumphong) go to Chonburi every day and one time of day.

By Bus : Air bus from Akkamai transport station , the bus start first time at 05.50am and then every 30 minutes, last time at 20.00pm.
Air bus from Moh Chit transport station , the bus start first time at 0.630am and last time at 20.00pm.

By Personal car : from Bangkok can go to Chonburi by 3 ways as :
- Bangna / Trat Way , Go to Highway number34 to Chonburi
- Bangkok-Meenburi , Go to Highway number 304 pass ChaCherngSao Province / Bangpakong Districe  and Go to Sri Racha.
- Motorway Road, Turn to Sri Racha about Suan Siur Sri Racha.


The Way to Koh Sichang.
From Bangkok to Sri Racha / Chonburi province the distant about 117 KMs ( Sri Racha is the one Aumpher or District of Chonburi) get off the bus at Sri Racha ( tell the driver to stop at Theuk-Com) and them go by tricycle or people call Tuk Tuk or service motorcycle go to " Tah Ruer Koh Loi"  for get on the ship to Koh Sichang.

The Ship from Sri Racha to Koa Sichang start at 07.00 am to 20.00 pm every day and start every hour, take a time about 40-45 minutes and the cost is 40bath per person ( 50baht  per person at the Last time)


Transport in Koh Sichang.
- Regarding the way to Chong Khao Kard, the traveler can go by motorcycly service about 15baht per person or take by tricycly at 30bath and can seat 3 persons.

- Tricycly guide, around the Island for 5 persons , Big time at 250baht and small time at 150baht.
- Motorcycle for rent, 250-300baht per day ( 2days 1 night)
- Car guide.

The Similan Islands is a group of islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Phang Nga Province, southern Thailand. Its're very beautiful islands people call its that The Emerald of Andaman. 


Group of Similan islands  have most of perfect  beautiful of corals in the World , " Similan" in malayo means "Nine" because of this islands feature with 9 islands so some people call them " Koh Khao" ( Koh= Island, Khao = 9 ) and almost of islands in Koh Similan are beautiful. Koh Similan include with Big islands and small islands and lay from North to South.

Group of Similans Island was National park at 2525 b.e. Area of Similans have a perfect nature , full of many plant and insect, animal. Landscape is the kind of strange ans awesome Cliff. In sea view: under the sea has many sea animal , plentifully beauty corals reef. The beaches are white sand and clean.

Landscape: National Park Similans are include with the land, granite mountains , beaches and lot of crags. The shape of islands are not fine and so indented. Because of they are located at the part of outing-sea so its get directly action washout of sea wave. Lay on North and South, the water's the part of Andaman, the East of Indian Ocean at continental shelf next to the coast of Pangnga Province and Myanmar parallel with row of Nicobar Island ( continental shelf of India)  At the beaches, they're no cray so its clean beaches and white, sand so fine. At the Peak of Mountains are tall and steep. The tallest at 244 metres from sea levels. The shape of some island will be flat and surround by sand dune and coral reefs.


The Weather : Summer start at middle of February - May. Rainy Season start at Middle of May to October. Overage of the weather for year is about 27ํ c, overage of relative humidity is high all year at about 83%. Overage quantity of rain per year is 3,560 mm. At the rain season, they're much of action and effect by the Southwest of Monsoon that makes the hard rainning and hard sea wave and it's not good to travel Similan at this season. So The national Park of Similan fix the time to visit Koh Similan as follow:

Off ( Close) the travelling season from 16 May - 14 November of every year.
On ( Open) the travelling season from 15 November - 15 May of every year.

Plants and Animals here in Koh Similans :
We can classify the kinds of plant in Similans island for 3 groups.
1. Mangrove forest, kind of sparse forest and slot of plants not taller than 15 metres such as Indian almond trees, Asiatica, Borneo Mahogany. Small Standing timber and Big Shrub such as orange mangrove, sea cockscomb, sea hibiscus etc. Moreover, there's small shrub such as Capparis micracantha, sea fish bone, Pandanus odoratissimus. 
and etc when you visit them you'll see all. (^๐^) 

2. Grove Wood is the society of the plants which can't grow at the soil not too deep over 30cm. , seeding to find not to much dense, as cactus, small general shrubs to find areeverywhere are small tiber trees and ect. 

3. Tropical rain forest, there's alot of big tree ( standing trees) and tall over 20 metres and the seconde are tall about 10-15 metre.

National Park of Similans Island has very rare plants such as forest Spodilla and sea trunk they'll see at the big islands in Andaman. 

Animals : Almost General animals you'll see at Similan would be small mammal such as , island fruit bats , Black-bearded Tomb Bats,  Prevost's Squirrel and big mammal such as Bottlenosed dolphin and etc.

Reptile: features with sea turtles, such as leathery turtle, Hawksbill turtle moreover we can meet the kind of lizard as voranus ,regarding snakes, never find poisonous snake here in Similans island and most of snake to find is Boa.

**Note from me ( Website owner) I think that Boa's very dangerous snake, they can eat a Buffalo so the visitors should beware when you stay at national park or rent a tent to stay in the forest at Night. ๐_O" 



Bird : the general birds easy to find here are :
1. Origin Thailand birds  and will live in Thailand permanent and no emigrate to other place such as Brahminy Kite , marsh hem etc
2.  Emigrant birds, will come to Thailand some chance some season such as Pintail Snipe, Gray Wagtail
3. Local Birds and sometime emigrant such as  Barn Swallow , Cattle Egret, Watercock and (Sterna dougallii) theyare just the xmple. when you visit there you'll meet more.

Fish : Important fish to find in sea such es Shark ( awwwwwwww!!!!) , Merlin ( Spearfish) stingray, flyingfish, Pufferfish and Boxfishes include the kinds of fish which live in the coral reefs such as butterfly fish, angle fish.

Other important animals, for the most value of invertebrate such as corals, jelly fish. The almost of corals surround Similan Island are the deep water,  and they're a lot of sea fan too. 


How to go to National Park Similans Island.
From Bangkok to Pangnga Province , far about 788 KMs, the fare depend on vehicle the visitor take, price between 375-685 bath. From Pangnga come to Aumpher Tublamu the distance is about 65 KMs the fare's about 35 bath. After that get the motorcycle transport to the port of Tah Rua Tublamu for 30 bath ( distant 5 KMs)

Travelling Points and interesting activities.
- Koh Mieng or Koh Si is located of office National park , white sand beache and clean water. When the visitors will go the beach they have to walk past the Forest about 20 minutes that the home of many kind of birds, bats, and many kind of wide animals,you can take a photo ( please no flash to bother the animals)  On this Island has freshwater, official residence, platform for tents, shops and longtail boats service to snorkel.

- Koh Similan or Koh Phad is the Bigest island of Group Similans Island. A beautiful big bay curve called Aow Kherk, very white find sand as flour.  Front of bay the visitors can dive by snorkel to visit the coral, the right of bay has the rock shape look like sailboat it's symbol of Similan island, the visitor can go there and view the landscape.

- Koh Payu or Koh Jed. The East side has diving points both of snorkel and scuba. It's very beautiful, many diver love here the most because of alot of hard , soft corals, sea fan, and many kind of fish. The Second popular's on the West and the North has the rocks look like sea fan. Tihs Island has no beach.

- Puza stone or skull rock, it's small island the shape like the skull over the sea and underwater is very strange looking with the hole in the rock.
 

- Koh Hah , the west Side has a big stone lay on and soft corals around. Fantasy stones is the diving scuba point
 

- Hin Sun Chalam, is a groups rock near Koh Payun or Koh Sarm, the diver always see the Silvertip shark, Leopard shark

- Koh Bon, located between Group of Similans Island and Koh Thachai, there's no beach and underwater not beautiful as other but here's many chance to meet manta ray. This point is good for scuba diving.
 
- Koh thachai is located at the North of Group of Similan Island. There's a very beautiful white sand beach, here has freshwater and plantform for tent, good for scuba diving that often to meet the Whale Shark.

During the 16th century, the island was also a popular trading port for tin. In 1785, Thaland town was surrounded by Burmese troops who invaded the coastal area. It was under the leadership of Chan, the widow of the governor, and her sister, Muk, who united the local resedents and successfully fought and drove the invaders out of Phuket. It took over 30 days for the defending troops of Phuket, under the command of Chan and Muk, to claim their victory. 

As a result of such heroic deeds, noble titles were granted to Chan and Muk as 'Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Sri Soonthorn, repectively. There are still hightly respected by Phuket residents even today.

 
When the city was in a peaceful state, the development of mining was so unprecedented. Chinese businessmen and miners later migrated to Phuket and soon enjoy thriving weath. The island's long history has shaped the distintive Phuket of the present with its diverse ethnic groups, culture, architectural influence, and fine cuisine. Laem Phromthep

Literally translate as Brahmas Cape, Laem Phromthep is perhaps one of Phuket's most important landmarks. There is a saying that you havent been to Phuket unless you visit Laem Phromthep. It is here that visitors soak up the sun and savor the breathtaking panoramic view of the Andaman Sea from the islands southern-most tip. The Cape is crowded especially in the evening, as it is a popular observation point at sunset. Laem Phromthep is located approximately 2 kilometers from Rawai Beach.


Hat Kata

Located approximately 17 kilometers from Phuket City are Kata Noi (Small Kata) and Kata Yai (Big Kata) Beaches. Both are renowned for snorkeling to see the coral, tropical fishes and the seas eco-system. Also worth visiting is Ko Pu, a small uninhabited island located off Laem Sai. Most visitors find snorkeling along the islands rich coral reef enjoyable. Diverse beach activities are available on both beaches. Accommodations on Hat Kata are set amidst tropical and cliff settings. Visitors can choose to stay in budget to top end accommodations according to their preference. Hat Nai Han 

Located a few kilometers from Kata Beach, next to Phromthep Cape, approximately 18 kilometers from town is Hat Nai Han, an extra-ordinary beach that has white powdery sand and crystal clear water. The beach borders on two charming landscaped lagoons surrounded by rubber trees and other tropical plants. As the beach has not yet been fully developed to its full potential, it is less crowded, more peaceful, thus is ideal for people seeking solitude. Holidaymakers are not recommended to swim during the monsoon season from May to October. Watch out for the red flag! Despite having a rather limited selection of accommodations, they range from budget bungalows to the top-class Yacht Club. Check with the TAT Phuket Office for more up-to-date information and room rates. 

This beach can be reached by songthaeos, which leaves from the intersection of Ranong Road and the fountain circle. The fare is 25 baht / person / trip. In addition, visitors can also charter tuk-tuks which costs a lot more at 150 baht to 200 baht / trip.


Hat Patong

This Beach is the most developed, most vibrant, most visited beach of Phuket that never fails to impress visitors. Located approximately 15 kilometers from the city, the beach has a wide range of accommodations and shopping arcades, and provides magnificent leisure activities and energetic night-time entertainment.It is a picture perfect postcard view of a 3-kilometer long white sandy beach that is perfect for swimming, lazing, and enjoying challenging water sports such as jet skiing, windsurfing snorkeling, sailing, and parasailing.

Two Heroines Monument 

 This monument was established by local residents in 1966 to honor the heroic deeds of Thao Thepkasattri and Thao Srisunthorn. It is located at the Tha Ruea intersection, Amphoe Thalang.
